Thank you and Goodbye!

It has been just over two years since we started our BLAST Creative Arts group for children in Penarth Library but our program directors James & Phil have moved on to pastures new and are no longer able to facilitate this project.

James & Phil would like to thank all the staff at Penarth Library that assisted us with our sessions and a huge thanks to all the children that took part and made it a success.

BLAST will return for special events throughout the Vale of Glamorgan Libraries but as we will not have a steady stream of activities to post here, this blog will be closing.

Before we go though here are some pictures of the children's entries for the Grow, Show, Share event which took place last weekend. Our BLAST children produced entries for the photography and decorated paper plate categories and claimed all of the top prizes.

Well done Guys; it is a fitting high note for us to go out on....thank you and goodbye!

Foil Embossing

We picked up this idea, once again, from the 'a faithfull attempt' blog; which we thought the children could attempt on paper plates, with the intention then, that they may be submitted in the 'decorate a paper plate' category for the 'Grow, Show, Share - Horticultural Show' in Penarth on the 19th & 20th of September.

For more information on the 'Grow, Show, Share' event please click here.

The details on the Faithfull attempt blog suggest alowing the glue to dry for 24hrs, which would no doubt work better, but we applied pritt sticks to both the string and the plate which worked quite well.

Our key tip would be to keep your design simple.

For inspiration for their designs we took the children out into our garden to seek out shapes and patterns.

Garden Update

As our Garden is starting to produce I thought I would share a few pictures with you.

We are approximately one month away from opening up the garden to the public as part of the NGS gardens open for charity scheme (See previous post) and it is slowly coming together. We had warned them that it would be a work in progress and shall be hoping to recieve some advice from any budding gardeners who may be among our visitors.

I shall post the opening date when I am able to confirm it.

The First actual Fruits of our Labour!
How many can you see?

Basil and carrots in this box
More basil and lettuces galore
Runner Beans just getting going
The Storytime Children's Sunflowers!
Our Insect Hotel...some rooms still available!

Eco Garden revisited

As we had registered our Garden for inclusion in the NGS gardens open for charity scheme, we have now begun to panic that people will be hoping to visit and see our 'Garden'.

Hence we have been working away trying to get prepared, as evidenced by our pictures below.

Visit the NGS website here, http://www.ngs.org.uk/ and discover a Garden to visit near you.
